Hi, I am wondering if this is a good deal. Its a 1996 evinrude, 3 cylinder with oil injection. The asking price is $1000 canadian. Is this a good engine and worth the money?

Don't assume anything when talking to a seller about anything. You need to personally check or verify what the seller tells you. We get lots of posts where the buyer relied on what the seller said that end up being expensive tales of woe.

Whatever you do. The most important thing you can check to verify the motors health, is a compression test on a warm engine. This covers all bases as you know it has spark and the carbs are clean (clean enough) if the engine was running to warm it up. And them you get the magic compression numbers.

My suggestion. If you decide to buy the motor, do one more thing. Try to drop the lower unit. You dont have to take it out completely. 2ins of movement or more should be enough. Then when you get it home replace the water pump as it is loose already. This assures you the shaft is not seized to the power head. regards fred
