Yeehah! - I just saw on the news that an American tourist from Montana has just broken a world record, catching a rainbow trout of 17kg (37.5 pounds) down here in the South Island of New Zealand.

The previous world record was 16.5kg (36.4 pounds) which was landed at Lake Michigan.

It took him 20 minutes to land, using a 5.4kg line.

Good fishing down here guys! ;)

You're right Purse*Snatcher, come to think of it, we do seem to be going through a pretty wild patch lately in the news. The fishing weather's been good though, perfectly still water, overcast skies and the fish are biting....

Re: World Record Rainbow Trout

and to think the largest live trout i've seen caught was just over 4#... :( i luv the taste of trout & salmon! well, there was an 11# rainbow caught just below Buford Dam 2-3yrs ago, but our DNR releases thousands of 'brood' and 'stocking' size trout, to keep us city dwellers paying our dues.... :p
