Re: World Juniors Hockey--17 days and counting!!

Darn you Rob!!....you beat me to it!!
I'm psyched for man....always psyched for this tournament which by the way, is going to be in Russia this year.
Its going to be a very interesting tournament.
I was reading about the U.S team having a very, very strong roster going into this tournament so that element combined with us/Canada being (hopefully) a bit of an underdog having got silver the last couple of years after a multi-year gold run....will make it a good one.:)
I'm keeping an eye on the training camp info, at least whats available, to see who is likely to make the team.
Quick recap for anyone who appreciates the game of hockey..... this is a must see series. The players in this tournament are the best of the next generation of upcoming professional players. Many have already been drafted to respective NHL teams and if they are young enough they can still compete in the tournament even if they played a year at the pro level. As a result this is fast hockey and any of these teams would give a pro-team a run for its money.
The other very interesting aspect is absolutely NO fighting or immediate tournament ejection....which keeps the play moving.;)
Yeah, this has been a tradition in our house for many years and its great to see it becoming a bigger event and tradition every year....at least up here in Canada. I'm not sure about how its received, telecasted or marketed in the states but I'm sure the northern U.S guys appreciate it.:)
All Good

Boxing Day and the World Juniors. Two things 97.8% of Americans have never heard of.

Ya, and I think I'm being generous. I know I could ask ten people where I live and zero would know what it is. But there must be somebody somewhere. Hell, I don't know what it is but I've heard of it about ten years ago when I was in Jamaica over Christmas.

I never knew that the day after Christmas was not also referred to as boxing day in the U.S...interesting. Assuming you are American, what is the day after Christmas called or referred to in the states and what part of the states do you live in? (North, South, S.East? or?)

Umm, it's called the 26th of December. Seriously.

It's just nothing, I mean my family's getting together for Christmas of course but most of them are leaving for home on Christmas Day (25th) as they have to work on the 26th. It's kind of sad but typically American. The family's together about 36 hours and people are leaving because they work to work.

And I'm in Minnesota, maybe 200 miles from the border.

Here, try this out....TSN usually streams all games and may carry local listings if there are available.
TSN Team Canada Hockey Roster | Junior Championship Scores, Pictures | Highlights & News
...its also a great source to track the players, write-ups on the games, etc, etc.
(as well, check out the stories/overview of the U.S squad too....some good info and insight there)

I know about it from Ghana ... bigger than Christmas there. But here in US, nope, nothing, nada ... I chuckle at my references to Boxing Day and the blank stares I get. Give it time and I am sure the stores will start pushing it, but as of now, it is nothing but the day after Christmas in this corner of the world.

Rob...you've got have faith man. We are going into the tournament as underdogs...and thats a nice spot to be in.
That said, I did some highlights of the finland game yesterday and despite the final score it looked like a good game and promising start.
The biggest challenge is going to be how to watch the games with the odd (re-telecasted) viewing times....hmmm.
The first boxing day telecast is at 9:00 am, which isn't too bad but not great for sharing it with buddies coming over, etc.

No problem with the faith, its that time were everyone learns from their teammates what the expectations are.
(boot camp per say)

Anyways I will need to go on Ontario time so popping a beer will not shock the wifey to much LOL
