I was at the semi-final hockey game today between USA and FINLAND. Great game, Near the start of the third period the entire building started cheering for the USA, To hear 10,000 people chanting USA, USA, USA would have made all of AMERICA proud. Tonight Canada lost the final game to RUSSIA by a score of 3-2.

Gary

love the international games! the bigger ice surface makes the games soooo much better!
NHL would never do it though, less seats in the
arena. have to wait for the olympics I guess.

Re: WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY TOURNMENT

The main problem for the NHL adopting the larger ice surface is the older rinks are logisticaly impossible to retrofit for the surface. Places where the seats were placed on a sharp inlcine are not condusive to this change. However, the newer rinks are being made to convert more easily. The international game is much more skill oriented which, combined with the NHL's attempts to make their version into a more skilled game, leads me to belive that the game will eventually be moved to the larger surface.

As for the Russian team winning, they still have alot of talent and training leftover from the Soviet era. Combine that with Slava Fetisov being the Sports Minister and the hockey program is definetly going to remain strong for sometime.
