I recently bought a Fiberglass Tri-hull Larson boat with a trailer and a Merc 800 outboard motor for $350. The engine was recently rebuilt and near each spark plug there are compression numbers. They are 1 120, 2 120, 3 125, 4 120, 5 130, 6 130. Are these numbers typical or are they above average? Also I need to know the year of engine. The S/N is 1401605A and the model is Merc800 model E. Was the purchase a good deal? The engine runs and sounds great. It is an 80 hp Merc.

If it runs great, what are you working on it for?? Best advice my daddy gave me was "Boy, if it ain't broke don't fix it." Is there anything wrong with it?

Also sounds like you got a pretty sporty deal to me!!

It runs great but a few of the wires are burnt, like they caught on fire once. I am replacing them now. Do you know where I can find a manual for the engine?
