This tractor we've got is mid 50'ish four cylinder gas engine. It starts and idles great but when you increase the throttle it starts to miss and sounds terrible. Its a positive ground electrical setup.

Anyway, We've recently had the carb rebuilt and flushed the gas tank. New fuel line. No fuel delivery issues.

I was thinking it may be the timing advance. It has a mechanical advance I believe. Shouldn't I be able to turn the rotor a bit and it should spring back?

A little info, like what make of tractor would probably help.

Well, its a White. Also known as Oliver or Cockshutt I've been told.

Don't know model, or anything about it really. We also replaced the points, condenser, cap, rotor by crossreferencing the distributor number.

...you didn't mention whether this was a distributor or magneto equipted engine. Either way, both have breaker points and a mechanical advance.

It sounds like a vaccuum leak, also check the plug gap before you get too deep into it.I just have a feeling that it is still a fuel issue. The float level in the carburator is another consideration.Good luck with it.Ron G

Play with the point gap or look at a bad coil
