hey guys, I need to build a wooden outboard stand for my early 70's Merc 80hp. I have a 2x8 piece for the motor to mount and a bunch of 2x4's to build the structure. Just wondering how big I would have to go or double any pieces up to support this motor. Thanks guys

Re: Wooden outboard stand dimensions?

You can go as big or small as you like.

Figure the motor weighs 200#.

I made mine strong enough to handle any motor I will ever own, 350#.
I made it on castors for mobility.
I made it sturdy enough so I can run the engine on the stand,
I made it wide enough so it can straddle my 100 gallon water tank.

The first two photos are one of my stands.

The third photo is from another member.

I have seen people get by with an oversized sawhorse, with a little extra bracing, it all depends what you want.

I can measure mine up in about an hour (after I get home). Just let me know.
