Wood Motor Mount??

Hi guys,

I am in the process of replacing the coupler which spun itself free on my 1975 holiday 18 (with the mercruiser 3.0L).

I read a lot about motor alignment and adjusting the mounting bolts to lift and lower the angle.

This motor appears to be bolted to/through a tapered piece of wood. Is this normal and if so how do I adjust the angle of the engine/coupler?

The wood has been cut on a small angle tapering the underside where it sits in the hulll.

Thanks!

you leave the lag bolts alone (where you have the arrows)

you adjust the big shimmed bolt with adjustment nuts under the pulley)

then you follow the manual and pull the drive to check alignment every year

Your planning and haven't started to pull the motor for the coupler R/R, right?

Unless you can pull the motor straight up, the front motor mount will have to move. The only way is to take out the lag bolts to move the motor forward.

You can take out the large adjustment nut or remove the front mount bolts into the block and still not have the clearance to move the motor enough.

Removing the lag bolts allows you to check the wood mounting block for rot. Starcraft just used a hunk of ordinary wood and tend to rot around the steel lag bolts.

No matter what you do, the alignment will need adjusting any time the motor is removed. While the drive is off you should check the gimbal bearing and bellows - The normal maintenance things.
