I have a 65 hp 3 cylinder #3552730, that was running fine until I removed the positive cable from battery while it was running, engine died, and now will only start and run in crank position, when in run position at ignition switch it just dies like no spark. Any help ?

Uh Oh... you killed the trigger. This is usually instant death to the trigger as people pull cable to check charging system like on a automobile. Check ebay as these are not cheap new

Re: wont stay running

I do have another complete used dist. I removed the positive cable to check if charging system is working, I will install the other dist, and get it running again, then I need to check charging system, do I put a ac/dc volt meter on battery cables while it is running, at what rpm? Is 13-15 volts ok. If it is not charging do I replace the rectifier and alt or can they be tested one at a time for fault?:

Yes in DC mode.....
at what rpm?
Check battery voltage before starting and then when running.<at idle rpm you should read 1-2 over voltage that was recorded before starting. Increase rpm to about 2500 and you should see a 2-5 volt rise, if so its working.

Anything under 16volts is fine......

They can be tested on at a time......
