Wont stay running

My friend has a 91 yamaha 650 waverunner....We are able to get it started but it wont stay running unless he plays with the gas....he took the carb off and cleaned the jet..etc.....but it still wont stay running....any ideas?

did you rebuild build the carb?
check compression and sparky

Check and make sure the idle set screw hanst backed off or fallen off. the carb THROTTLE plate needs to be slightly slightly open. Dont mistake the throttle palte for the choke plate. the choke plate is at the top of the carb throat. the throttle plate is 1/2 way down the throat of the carb
