Won't start

I have a 1985 Merc 115hp inline 6 that cranks but won't start. The primer bulb pumps up fine, the engine turns over but it appears its not getting fuel to through the carbs.Pulled the plugs after cranking, they were bone dry.No smell of gas and no gas coming out of the carbs.I pulled the hose of the output of the fuel pump, cranked the motor and gas was getting that far.Anything other than the float needles being stuck closed cause this problem.I was thinking about pulling the fuel line off the fuel pump and giving the carbs a quick blast of air to see it that might unstick the needles.Any ideas other than pulling off the carbs and cleaning them.Thanks.

chances are even if you did get them loose that way they would come back and haunt you when you want to go for a ride, take the time and do it right that will save a lot of *^#^#*>?<>"*&^.

Howdy, MrWick.

Go to the Engines FAQ section and do the troubleshooting in the "Outboard wont start" article.

That should put you on the right ttrack. Then let us know what you found and we can work it from there.

Good luck. :)

Well I pulled the top part of the fuel bowls off and sure enough all three were stuck in the closed position.I tok the air compressor and gave the fuel line a quick blast and that unstuck them.I did take them apart clean them up and they appear to work, will see if it will start tomorrow. Will let you all know how it works out.
