hi folks, so having some issues shifting into neutral from both forward and reverse (305 MPI, alpha II).

my mechanic is even a little stumped as we've replaced the rear drive shift cable, the shift cable to the control arm, adjusted the cut-out switch, softened the spring on the y-plate for the cut-out switch, and everything is smooth and functioning as it should until its under load. (as per Don's posts that I read thru)

the gears don't grind when you shift out of neutral, sounds nice and solid. when going back into neutral you need to go past the neutral detent and hope that it releases. if it doesn't you gotta wiggle the **** out the control arm or just shut the boat down to stop. a tad scary coming into a dock or picking up a skier.

I'm hoping the drive doesn't need to be ripped apart and that someone here will have a genius idea instead. ;)

ya it shifts great on land with the muffs and when the motor is off. you mean you bypassed the computer from the cut-out switch to the coil?

ya thats what i did on your shift interupter switch wires coming from the harness is 2 wires i had a white with black and a black the black was my ground and the white with black wnet to computer ..try this take a piece of wire run it from your shift switch wire on the 1 where white and black would plug in and run that to your coil on the negitive side and see if that will work

Fire up your motor, go back to your remote shift plate(where the shift cable and the control cable meet, reach down and press the little button on the shift interrupt switch. If the motor dies, either your cables are out of adjustment, or the interrupter isn't accuating. If your motor doesn't die. fire your mechanic and replace the shift interrupt switch

weird, ok. how did u think to try that?

boatman, the interrupt switch works, is in proper adjustment and so are the cables... according to the manual. like i said, everything is functioning as it should until under load, thats why we're stumped.
