hi folks, so having some issues shifting into neutral from both forward and reverse (305 MPI, alpha II).
my mechanic is even a little stumped as we've replaced the rear drive shift cable, the shift cable to the control arm, adjusted the cut-out switch, softened the spring on the y-plate for the cut-out switch, and everything is smooth and functioning as it should until its under load. (as per Don's posts that I read thru)
the gears don't grind when you shift out of neutral, sounds nice and solid. when going back into neutral you need to go past the neutral detent and hope that it releases. if it doesn't you gotta wiggle the **** out the control arm or just shut the boat down to stop. a tad scary coming into a dock or picking up a skier.
I'm hoping the drive doesn't need to be ripped apart and that someone here will have a genius idea instead.
