Hello again from the not so sunny British Isles

I have finally got my Evinrude 40hp twin to burst into life!!

After installing new coil - new plugs - cleaned and set points and replaced sheared woodruf key (3 times in process).

I can now get motor to fire up at med to high revs:D but it wont idle or keep running at low revs.:(

poked bit of wire up the jet.

also smells very fuel rich and lots of smoke on start up. needs full choke and even choke to start when quite warm??

Can anyone offer any advice please

thanks Craig

You have to dismantle the carb and clean it very well. Soak it overnight in cleaner and blow everything out with compressed air.

True, there are low and high speed orifices that need to be cleaned real good.. i would say the fuel smell is from needing to be choked to run,
