Won't go WOT

87 Force 125hp. Freshly rebuilt carbs professionally done. Timing has been done. The motor has not been ran in a couple years. Spark plugs seem fine. Throttling up all the way does not really do anything. The motor starts and runs good, but no speed when throttling up. Doesn't even feel like its bogging down or running bad. Just feels like 5 mph is all the way up. Also, reverse does not work. From reading, the shift linkage needs to be adjusted, but can the linkage be the same problem with throttling up. Any ideas?

When you throttle up, does the engine rev up?
I'm guessing it does if the timing has been adjusted?

Does the engine rev up in reverse?
Likely 2 different problems.

May be a spun prop hub, or a mounting issue. Have you removed the prop?
Do you have a spare prop you could try?

I had the boat for a few years from 2002-2005. Sold it to a family member until just a couple months ago when I bought it back. Was only used in once and that was in 2006. The timing was set back before I got rid of it. Prop was also replaced back then. Throttling up or going into reverse does not rev up.
