Re: wondering...

Never had one - this info is mostly scuttlebutt I've heard over the years. Mainly it's beacuse they are no longer in business. Parts available for them are used (e-bay type) or new aftermarket - no direct factory support. Mechanics who know how to work on them are rare.

All makes have some skeletons in their closets - when somebody finds one, they generally remember that above all else.

Re: wondering...

The issue is with their outdrives - not their engines. The 3 liter is a fine engine. The outdrive is obsolete and most mechanics will not work on them.

So, I have a junker 1988 model OMC? It pushes a 21' in the upper 40 mph....and all it needs is the normal maintainence.

Re: wondering...

Ayuh,......... It's got Nothing to do with the Motors,.... Most are Chevies anyways......

It's the Drives,+ All the marine parts that OMC hung on the Chevy motors that's the Problem.........

Scaaty's Right,........

Except for the short run of Volvos they used just before they went Under,......
OMC's have Always been Less than Ideal..............

A Chevy based engine,+ Either a Volvo or Mercruiser drive.......

Chevies are the Most Common motors,+ Mercruisers are the Most Common drives......
Commonality tends to Lower Prices of Parts,.... Especially Used Parts......
