Welcome to the forums,

CD and Ignition coils on the 9.8 model are one integrated unit as opposed to the 40 being 2 independent pieces. Probably 40's CD, ignition coil output are greater than of the 9.8 ? If at hand try it and see what really happens...

Probably could build a Frankenstein unit, assuming you have a 2-cylinder 40, and you are willing to hack the exciter/trigger coils to match the CD. Why not get the correct CD? What are the exact models?

Yes, it would fire. No, it would not work correctly. Like Paul said, "why not get the correct CD".
