Over on the O'Reilly thread we have been discussing appropriate penalties for basically Sexual abuse and/or Statutory Rape. Is there a moral difference, and should the penalty be different, for a scenario involving a 30 year old woman who has sex with a 13 year old boy vs. a scenario of a 30 year old man with a 13 year old girl?<br /><br />Edited for singular vs. plural woman. Can't change the poll, purely Freudian I think . . .

Aparently QC you have voted and as have I , Vote is 2. apparently we have a different view on whether you are a sick puppy. Admitedly i may have been influenced by other things. such as most of us males are sick puppys.

No at the time thier were 2 votes 1 voted befour me ( I presume was you) that vote didnt think you were a sick puppy. Intresting. Were I to vote whether I was a sick puppy I would have said yes.<br />I dont guess I can draw a conclusion. But given a vote whether or not I was a dirty old man, I would have always voted yes.

I would say it's the same, as long as it's consentual, a girl would get the same enjoyment from it as a boy. I also wouldn't consider a boy or a girl a "victim" if it's consentual. The penalties for sex abuse should be much worse than those for statutory rape...two completely different crimes.<br /><br />When I was a sophomore in high school the (male)principal was arrested for having sex with a 16 year old male student...several times. The student consented and the principal only got 5 months in prison...I think that was reasonable. The public humiliation of having this all over the news was probably worse than prison. Why a 16 year old boy would consent to that with a 35 year old fat bald man I'll never know.

My initial reaction as if I was the "subject" was different from my subsequent reaction when I thought as a parent.<br /><br />Sorry, I had to vote as a parent.<br /><br />I am slowly becoming my father.

Z, older authority figures have great ability to influence children. 5 months is a slap in the face of what that man deserved.

Well, we are talking about a 16 year old here. If he was just two years older it would have been perfectly legal and he'd still probably be the principal. I believe 16 is old enough to give consent in some states. Terrible terrible judgement on his part for sure, but I don't think it was that terrible of a crime. He also had to spend around a year in some kind of half way house for sex offenders. And of course ruined his high paying career.

All laws should be the same, whether it is a man/girl, or woman/boy. <br />It would send a wrong message if it was any different. IMO.

Something about dogs and a garden hose .<br />Seriously, my view is that the penalty should be the same, weather it's girl on man, or boy on woman. There was a best-selling novel--"Summer of '42" that explores this phenomenon...<br /><br />I think circumstances can be different from one case or another.
