WMK-22 Carb, Idle Tube Question

I have what appears to be some sort of plastic, opaque bb that sits on the top of the idle tube. I'm guessing the idle adjustment screw pushes down on this as it is tightened, thus blocking the tube even more. I do not see this piece on any of the carburetor diagrams I've looked at. Can any one shed any light on this? Was this something someone added or something that was originally stock but eliminated?

Thanks!

Gee, I worked on those sidebowl carbs and never saw anything like that. Was that under the idle mixture needle?

I doubt it is supposed to be there. Remove it and see if she works better.

It seems to have ran fine before doing the rebuild but since I don't know how well it can run, it might not have been running 100% -- I guess I'll find out once I'm done getting everything reassembled, rewired, re-everything.

Strange though, of the six carbs I have for this boat, the four that were not disassembled (3 on motor, one with a set of spares) all had this little bb. There doesn't seem to be much info available for the WMK-22 carb though -- its almost as if it was used and scrapped so fast that Mercury never even bothered with a part diagram or anything.

I wonder if I could drive down to Mercury (its about 45 minutes from my place) and bang on the door. Shove this carb at whomever answers and request information on it :D

All the WMK series use the same parts kits ...only differences are the main emulision tube, idle tubes size as its actually a metering tube and some have a different size venture. That BB is not supposed to be in the carb as its from the guts of a recirculation valve.Someone before you didn't know or was trying to block off econ tube.
