Wiring problems with new ignition...please help.

I just purchase a new control box and new ignition to replace the old one. I followed the A,B,C,M,M,S terminal setup, but the ignition is still not working properly. on the old switch I had an easy setup, but this new one is confusing. These are the colors of my wires as follows:

Purple/white
Black/yellow
Red/purple
Yellow/red
Black
Purple

To be honest I don't really know what is going on with this wiring. I followed a normal 6 post guide, but to no avail, it is not working out right. The way I currently have it wired, it will not let me turn motor off. I tried it a different way and when I switched it into the on (accessories) position, the startor motor kicks on. I would appreciate any help on this one.

Here's where they go Chris....

Black w/yellow stripe goes to the large post marked "M". This is the engines kill wire.

The black wire goes to the terminal marked "M".

Red w/purple stripe goes to the terminal marked "B"....battery.

Pruble wire goes to the "I" terminal....ignition.

Yellow w/red stripe goes to the "S" terminal....start.

Pruple w/white stripe goes to the "C" terminal....choke.

Is this the way you have it wired?

What model engine, and control box are you dealing with?

I have a (1977) 85 HP Johnson. I just bought a replacement control box and had to change out the ignition switch because the old switch did not have a key. The box itself does not have any markings, but I was told that it was from a little newer model then a '77. The box is white and all the same as the old box. It has the warm up lever on the top of the box. I can attach a picture of it if needed.....thanks

I appreciate that breakdown on the wiring OBJ. I do know from just looking at your wiring list that I miswired the purple wire. If I remember well, I wired that purple wire to the A terminal. I used the six post wiring diagram, but didn't show it the way you just told me. A lot of my confusion started when I saw the "I" terminal. That's what threw me for a loop. Thanks for your help and I will try this first thing tomorrow afternoon and let ya'll know if it worked.
