I want to post this in case anyone else is having a problem trying to wire their trailer. I rewired the complete trailer but was having problems so I took it to a trailer/camper dealership. There were two guys working for two hours on my trailer. The problem was this, my 1962 Sterling boat trailer breaks at the yoke and as soon as they attached ground to the rear of the yoke, it worked just fine. If you trailer breaks make sure that your ground is on the rear of the yoke!! OH and the two guys for two hours, they only charged me $20.00 dollars. Whew, I was getting worried as time was passing by.

It took them 2 hours to find a ground wire problem? I rewired my trailer in 45 minutes.

For $20.00 dollars and found the problem to your wiring, that is a good deal.

The better way is to run ground wires from each lamp to a common point, and then continue that point through to the plug. This does not rely on the tow ball to maintain a connection with the car for the lights to work.

The ball should not be the ground. The ground should go through the connector, and on the trailer end run past the yoke to the main frame. At that point it can be connected to the frame of the trailer.

If you do you need to make sure the connection is sealed against corrosion.

Another answer is to run a ground wire to all the lights, and not depend on a rusty, painted trailer for a ground.

had an electrical problem in my trailer, that sat for many years and it was a bit flaky before then...we played with it for an hour while we verified that everything else was ok with the truck module > boat module...somewhere there was a problem...so instead of playing around, I just went to walmart and bought a complete new kit for $30 and installed it in 30 minutes, it even has side lights that come with it- my prior ones didnt.

S
