I installed an aftermarket internal harness on an old 850 (4 coil/ADI) and have
two problems (so far). 1. Choke will not work (have checked continuity on
switch and both harnesses...ok) and choke works when grounded and direct 12v is applied. 2. After starting engine, kill circuit doesn't work. Turning off
ig. switch does nothing.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any input.

Re: Wiring issues 1976 850

Thanks for the comeback/pardon my dumb: the black #4 awg grounds to the
starter and the coils ground to two lugs on switch box...I was thinking the balance of electrics grounded through mounting screws to the block. Are
there any other ground wires I've overlooked? The mercury switch looks fried
as far as the wire on it goes, but that shouldn't have any effect on choke or
kill circuit should it? Seems it would impact the run circuit if anything. Thanks
again for any help. ff

Re: Wiring issues 1976 850

Again............thanks for the input. I'll try to run this down tomorrow. Our local
lake it 20 ft high and all ramps are under water, I can't even throw it in the lake
to see if high-speed operations are ok. Don't have the equipment to test out of
the water. This old girl has a special place in my heart.........I put this rig together in 1992 and ran it for 10 years before giving to my son. He had to sell
it and "we" just reclaimed for pennies on the dollar and I am attempting to
revive the rig so I can give it back to my boy. Many thanks. ff
