Hey guys, my key broke n half the other day tring to get my boat started. I talked to my mechanic he said that it would be cheaper to just put a new swithc in by the time that you are done get a lock smith to get a key. Anyway can anyone give me a link to what kind of switch I need.?? I have a 73 Evinrude Shift Piolt side mount control with the toggle switch choke (No push coke with key, old school). He also said it might jsut be better to upgrade my Controls. Anyway how hard will be to wire in the switch and second, does anyone have an extra control box they are willing to sell it needs to have the red end for my motor (If all else fails). What do you think would e the smartest move? Thanks guys

Re: Wiring ignition

Joe, I don't have the orginal key. I mean how many keys where there for a 1973 control box? It doesn't look like a diffucult key to have (tooth pattern). Anyway is there a serial number or any other suggestions, I mean do you think that it would be worth upgrading. I am also having a netural switch problem, it is not allowing to let it turn over all the way I have to wiggle the shifter, where is the netural switch located inside there? My mechanic said it is probably sticking so just spray brake cleaner in there since the grease is old?? Joe let me know about a key.
Andrew

Re: Wiring ignition

The neutral safety switch is just out of adjustment... needs to be moved slightly closer in to the cam.

The key switch, if it's a OMC switch, will have a number engraved on it where the key is inserted. Look closely. If you can see a number there, let me know what it is.

In answer to how many keys there were... a bunch!

Re: Wiring ignition

Open your control box up and look in the front and you will see a little switch box that has a probably push button on it and it has adjustment screws that will let you set it closer to control lever
