'77 35 hp Evinrude electric. The dash/ignition wiring joins with the 2 large battery cables and enter a large, black, neoprene sheath about 4 ft. before entering the front of the motor. This neoprene (rubber?) sheath has deteriorated to the point I'd like to replace it. Does anyone know where I might find the proper material for this? Thanks for reading.

BoatBuoy you should be able to get this sheath anywhere they rig motors. I got my new cover from a boat dealer in Loudon. Good Luck

I had the same problem. I used several pieces of shrink tubing. I built it up using several layers and it works just as good.

Auto sound installers use something similar for custom car stereo installations.

Thin-wall neoprene tubing. Buy it by the foot at most hardware stores. Also see plastic tubing, same place.

Hmmm...lets just say that a person wanted to go into a boat shop and ask for one of these sheaths....what the heck do you call the darn things? I tried to look up "wire harness sheath thingy" and didn't get any hits.

Seriously, mine is trashed to, and I would like to replace it...but it is bad enough being a newby without having the whole boat shop laughing at you...

Just my $0.02 worth,
Joe

They call it a sleeve and what ya' get is a long piece of heat shrink. Have replace several. Easy but a pain in the butt to do. Ya' have to disconnect every thing from the top of the motor and slide the whole thing, steering cable and wires through the tube. Then shrink it. Put all the wires and steering cable back. You can just go to NAPA and get a long chunk of spiral wrap and do the job with that. Works well and you can get to the steering cables easier.

Thanks OBJ. Right now all my wires are not only disconnected, but they are actually removed from the boat while I do my rebuild...but when it all goes back it will be with some sort of new sleeve. See this thread for my rebuild My rebuild thread

Thanks again,
Joe
