I?m in need of a wiring diagram for a 1989 Evinrude Tracker 40. From the motor to the ignition switch (keyed).
Model # TE40ELCEC Ser # G 02280162

Why do you need it?
The wiring colours are pretty standard across key to motor.

Helping a friend with his new (old) pontoon. Turns out previous owners were not very good mechanics resulting in poor wiring modifications over the years that has burnt up the wiring through out. I have made a new trim harness and that works fine now . The original engine harness up to the console is in good shape and wired to the iginition switch - but nothing happens when key is turned.

I'm sure I missing a connection some where as I removed a rats nest of wires to get this far along.

I really just need to know how the iginition switch is supposed to be wired.

Ok glad you have done the trim i find those very convoluted.
So you need to check power and starter wire.
Have you got the choke clicking/working on key switch?

Check your neutral safety switch aint bust too

I'm not at the motor now but it doesn't do anything

All the wiring from the ignition switch to the motor is the original manufacture harness - so the wires to the motor should all be correct. I just don't know what was done at the switch over the years.

Is there suppose to be a Positive and or Negative (separate from harness from engine) to the switch to energize start relays or something?

Ouch, i hate the mention of relays.
There should be 12 volts at the switch brought in on purple wire.
The white/purple is the prime.
Id say with prime and start not working check you a getting 12vs at the switch first

12v might be red with violet stripe, that often comes straight off where the batt+ connects on solenoid for starter

Thanks for all the help. I got all the burnt up wiring replaced and hooked back up properly, everything is working.
