Ok so I've been doing a total motor swap same motor just no cracked block. I have power to everything and now the starter just clicks. And my positive and negative cables get really hot. I was figuring I made a mistake wiring I'm going to add a picture of the starter and see if you all can see if it wrong. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I took the wiring harness off the old motor put it on the new the exact same way, just not sure what's going on. Thanks in advance.

The 2 larger red cables, one goes to the battery, where does the other go to?

Also what motor, and year?

It's a 94 Bayliner rendezvous not sure on what year the motor is as I bought it used. As for the other wires I'll have to look.

Oh sorry the motor is a 3.0 mercruiser the orange one goes to the alternator the yellow one I'm not sure unless I cut the covering off and follow it back.

Want to know were the 2 "Red" wires go to
one goes to the start battery but where does the other one go?

I'm guessing but think the starter has an issue or the motor is locked up.
Can use a screw drive and jump from the yellow/red to starter terminal and it should crank if there is no issue with the starter

Do you know the motor installed is good?

One goes to the battery the other goes to a fuse. The motor shouldn't be locked up as I saw it run before I paid for it.

Ok so I have 2 starters and both work. So now I'm lost. Maybe try and get the motor to spin without pulling the motor again. I think I'm going to clean all terminals and try it again. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't happen to hook the battery up backwards maybe?
