So I went to trim up my 175 hp Johnson the other day and it just clicked. Found the wire at the top of the trim motor was cracked and looked like it got hot. I replaced it and it is fine. Went to start it and the battery started smoking. I looked and the starter had damage to the inside of it. I ordered a new one and new battery cables in case of damage or corrosion. Am I missing anything?

After you install all of these parts make sure all the connections are good, clean and tight. It also may not hurt to have your battery load tested.

I plan on it for sure. From what I have read I am assuming that the starter was causing a draw. Just curious if there could be another cause I'm missing. Don't want to fry anything else.
