Two to be exact.

How long do the batteries last in them?

For use with a late model Dell Laptop, is there anything else you need to make the wireless mouse work. ie, a wireless router, etc. We are running one of those, soley for the wireless Brother printer. The router is not plugged into the internet modem. We are an all wired household but Mrs B would like to get the mouse wire off her desk.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

I have a Microsoft wireless mouse 3000. It has a USB adapter that snaps into the base when not in use and shuts the mouse off. I've been on the same battery for about 2 1/2 years.

My 5000 that I use on the desktop has no shutoff and uses a pair of batteries about every 30 to 40 days.

I use my Logitech daily. It takes 1 triple A battery and it will last about 6 to 8 months depending on the brand of battery.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

So with a wireless capable laptop, you just plug and play with the WL mouse? No cards, no WL router, etc?

...and what kind of batteries do the ones with disposable batteries require?

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

Boom,
Wireless mice use Bluetooth to connect and communicate.
A "wireless capable" laptop is meant to connect for wireless for Internet, not the mouse and/or keyboard.

If you do not have internal Bluetooth, you will need the USB "dongle" to connect to the mouse.

If you buy a mouse, it will have instructions on connecting. It is a simple process and usually only involves plugging in the dongle, add battery to mouse, and turn the mouse on.

Depends on the manufacturer and model. My wife's laptop has a small Logitech WL. It has a small (3/8") USB goober plugged into the laptop. It's small enough that it doesn't need to be pulled out to use the carrying case. Batteries ( 1 or 2 AAA or AA - I forget) last 9-12 months. And she uses the thing about 18 hours a day. I found the mouse at Best Buy.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

Thanks all!! You've all given me enough info that I was able to google a few choices. Looks like I will be buying a Logitech M305 mouse. I see the little dongles that communicate with the mouse. At least the Logitech has an auto off feature and reports show it has excellent battery life.

On another mouse note, I have wired optical meese on all the home computers (all Logitech) I have never had a failure of one. Harken back to the roller ball meese. I have boxes full of those that are either dead or became very sluggish. I was always having to cut the hair off the roller pins. I saved them all to use them as target practice, with my son, with either low powered .22's or air pellets. He grew up and moved away before we had a chance to use them. Anyone need some good targets?? :D

Know what you mean, Boom. I haven't cleaned mouse balls in a long time.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

I have several wireless mice and all of them use nano usb adapters, works like a charm and I have never broken one off like I did with the older usb mice, they are all optical mice, the current one I am using on my computer is a Microsoft model 3500 I got on black Friday last year for less than $10 bucks!

Yeah, the MS 3500 is one option and you can't argue with $10!. Who had it for that price?

The Logitech M305 also uses the nano transmitter. A bigger one would be nutz.

I'm waiting to see what Dolluper says about the bluetooth mouse. Best I can tell is that you have to have a bluetooth capable computer to use one. He seems to disparage the ones that we are talking about.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

Turns out that Mrs B's Inspiron 1764 does have a built-in Bluetooth card.

Dolluper, are you saying this is the way I should go, with the mouse?

I picked up three of them last year black friday at Office Depot.

With about 2 weeks to go, I am not buying anything.

If you've got Bluetooth built in, it's much more convenient than the having to plug in the USB plug when you want to use it. Plus you don't have something sticking out of the machine all the time. The Bluetooth mice are more expensive though.

Re: Wireless Mouse Question

The newer mice with the nano adapters are great, the usb adapter only sticks out about a quarter of an inch and in real life, you would never know it was there.
