Wireless Motorguide Question

I have an older model Great White Lazer II Wireless TM... I have a big issue with it. It will not always connect the remote to the TM when I turn it on... I dont have a user manual for it, and there is not one I can find online... Does anybody have any idea? Sometimes it turns right on and there is never a problem, but others you punch the on/off button on the remote and you get a single beep indicating it has turned on then after about 5 seconds two beeps and thats when I know it is not "connected"... Any help would be great..

Thanks

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

I have a W45, but have not had the issue you describe. I recommend:

- Calling Motorguide tech Support for Manual
- Changing Battery in Keyfob or remote pedal
- Make sure antenee is in view, not blocked

Does it always work if you put the transmitter close to the receiver?

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

I also had a Lazer II for quite a while. Slowly started showing the same symptoms. I used to spray the control board inside of the foot pedal with electrical contact cleaner to dry it out. That worked for a while, but mid season last year it stopped working for good. I got mine 2nd hand and it worked for me for about 5 years so I can't complain, but I have given up on it.

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

thanks... it does not always work with the remote close to the TM, in fact it is like something is not allowing it to connect. i am thinking like when I drop it in the water a switch or something is not falling in place letting the board know that it is standing up and not laying down anymore???.... Which raises another question: Will your trolling motor work while it is laying down?

remote is a foot control, with a brand new battery, and i dont see an antennae on it.

it is driving me crazy though took a long boat ride yesterday to get to a creek i wanted to fish, just to find out TM had quit working again somewhere between boat ramp and creek....

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

so Timab.... would you say the problem in yours was definitely in the remote and not the TM?

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

Yep, definitely in the remote. Very sad to dump it as I knew the Motor unit was fine. Just couldn't find a replacement.

Re: Wireless Motorguide Question

On the W45 the antenea is on the trolling motor. The W45 can be turned on while in the retracted position. The prop will spin but the shaft (left/right) will not turn because coupler only engages when deployed.
