Wire or Webbing for Winch??

I currently use wire on my winch. As the winch needs replacing I was thinking of going with a webbing or strap for safety reasons if wire breaks. However a guy at marine shop said the seatbelt type strap has stretch in it and will spring back as much as wire and do the same damage if it breaks.
What do you guys think.

Howdy, Terry.

I much prefer the strap on my winches. It is not the same stuff as seatbelts and it is much safer to handle than wire. Straps don't dig into the wind on the winch drum.

Good luck. :)

terry,

Go with the strap. They are about $10 bucks and are adaptable to older winches.

I've posted this before, but I had a cable break, and a strap break. The strap no big deal. The cable/wire wow, you're not fast enough, to get out of the way, if that thing breaks on you. Go with the strap.

Go with the strap and add a safety chain with a quick link so if the strap breaks on the highway you still have your trailer.

thanks guys for the quick response. it seems like i will be going for the strap instead of the wire. I've already got the safety chain, I agree they are a must. thanks again.
