Hello,

Been a while since I have been here. Well this past winter I had mice make a huge nest under the my cowl and in the motor. The urine corroded everything. There is corrosion all over the block! The wire terminations on the termination block all came off. I have all the wires back in order except for one.

Please see the following image. There is a tan wire that is coming from underneath that I have no idea where to put. Pretty sure it doesn't go on the termination block. It is paired up with a Brown and white wire and a red wire.

The motor is a E28ESLCUC.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know that engine specifically, but usually the tan wire comes from under the head and is the temp/overheat sensor.

damn mice!

Samo ott,

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing also. The book wiring diagram says that tan wire goes to overheat sensor. I gueess the question is where is the overheat sensor located?

Thanks again

It's usually in the bottom of the head I believe.

Still don't know where this wire goes. It doesn't go far from the termination block because it isn't that long. Maybe it goes on the terminatin block? Diagrams don't show where though.

No ideas. Anybody else?

On my 28hp Johnson, that wire connects to the 2nd screw from the left in the picture.

Mouse stuff must change the color of the wires. The terminals should have:
2 red wires
2 yellow wires
2 yellow with blue stripe wires
2 yellow with gray stripe + 1 gray wires.
Not necessarily in that sequence.

The solid gray wire if for a tachometer hookup, so if you don't have a tach, don't worry about it.

Yeah thats not the original rectifier. I put a new one a couple of years ago. The wires on it are all yellow and the one red one. Kind of threw me off when I looked at it again. I remember reading the manufacturers instruction sheet that came with the part.

So you are saying that your tan wire goes on the first post on the block on the left?

The first screw visible on the left is a block mounting screw then the 4 posts followed by another mounting screw.

In the diagram below the first "0" on the left?

Q 0 0 0 0 Q Q= Bar Mounting screw
0= Post

What year is your Johnson 28hp?

Thanks

my Johnson is a 95, that block looks identical to mine. It would be the second 0 in your mock up. the second screw from the left that has wires on it.
