wire harness ?

i have a 1973 evinrude 50hp i rebuilt the engine and had to remove the wire harness it has a long black maybe a resistor block with 6 places to put wires.does anyone know how the wires go from 1 to 6?

No resistor about it, it's just a connection strip. I Don't know about a '73, but a '72 is:
Yellow 3 wires
Yellow/Gray + Gray 4 wires
Red 2 wires
Purple 2 wires
Purple/yellow 2 wires
Purple/white 2 wires
Purple/green 2 wires
Vacant.

I could have it backwards, end-for-end.

You may want to eliminate the Thermo switch wiring.
