Winterizing?

Hello everyone,
I just bought a new 25hp Mercury 4 stroke today which I have been waiting on for two months. Anyway I live in Savannah, GA where it rarely ever snows. Last year it only got below freezing maybe ten nights all year. I'm just wondering whether I need to winterize the motor in this climate. And if I need to at what temperatures do people normally do this process? Also what would happen if I didn't winterize?

Re: Winterizing?

Really, winterizing is more about the motor not being used rather than temperatures. I don't know how often you plan to use your motor during the winter, but if it's gonna be more than one month, I would winterize it. Fuel goes bad no matter what the temperature and rust keeps on working on exposed parts. I would add stabilizer to the fuel, run the motor so it gets in the carbs, change the lower unit fluid(to make sure there is no moisture in there to freeze), and fog the motor for good practice, cause it may sit longer than you originally plan on...
