Re: Winterizing in warmer climate

I have a 1975 I/O that lived in Los Angeles until 1988. Boat stayed outside, on trailer, 24/7. Other than keeping a cover on the boat, I never did a thing to it for "winterizing". Boat still runs great today (1800 hrs) but up here in the Not So Great PNW I have to do all of the freeze related stuff. Boat still sits outside under it's well supported cover.(freshly pressure washed, re-stitched, and re-waterproofed)

ps: That is not the answer you'd get from the Mfg. however.

If the boat is not going to be used for some time it should be fogged out. There really is no freeze winterizing to do .Just tilt the motor down and it will drain.Change the lower gear lube. You can also consider starting it up a few times a month if you dont want to fog.Fuel stabilizer can be used too.How long will the layup be????You may not have to do anything if it is for a short while. charlie

I would probably try to get as much water out as possible. You may not have to be as hardcore about it as us northerners, but all it takes is one freak freeze, and I know that once in awhile Texas has had some wierd winter weather. Very rare, but why take the chance when the precaution is easy to do and takes little time?
