Winterizeing with Antifreeze

A couple years ago i winterized two Kawasaki Jet Ski's with antifreeze. I ran it through the engines. The next spring when we launched them, one ran fine (smoked allot) the other would not run after five minutes. My question is did i cause any problem by doing this? I did all the other winterizeing items as i do with my 28' Bayliner. The machanic that we took them to is blameing me for not doing the winterizeing right. Shood i be takeing the blame for this?

Thanks Hank

Re: Winterizeing with Antifreeze

it all depends on what the problem was and how long they sat before you tried to use them.

They sat for 6 months after i winterized them. I beleive the 2 seater is a 150 and it ran smokey and continued to run fine after worm. The 3 seater i believe is an 1100 and started up and ran for a bit then cut off and would not stay running. It sounded like it wanted to start and when i let off the start button it would not continue to run. Thanks Jeff

Yes gas was stabilized and run though. Can you advise wether running antifreeze through the engine would have caused any damage? Thanks Hank

Re: Winterizeing with Antifreeze

Thanks for the responses. I really just wanted to know if Antifreeze caused a problem. Just did not want to take the blame for all the problems my brother in law is having based on the antifreeze question. Even if it was bad gas or the injectors i feel as though i did not cause the problems. Thanks again for your help. Hank

Re: Winterizeing with Antifreeze

if you didn't put antifreeze in the block where you live the block could have cracked if water was sitting in it during the winter, but no it won't cause issues with the engine fuel system, when skies sit they seem to develop problems .

Re: Winterizeing with Antifreeze

Thanks Jeff, Iv been feeling guilty for the problems. The machanic was pissed off i think that i helped out and took a client for a season. I think my brother in law has paid like $1500 each for repairs. Im just trying to not feel guilty that i did something wrong. Thanks for makeing me feel better. Hank

Re: Winterizeing with Antifreeze

sounds like a lot of money for a dirty fuel system. I have trouble trying to rationalize how on earth any mechanic could blame adding antifreeze to the water jackets, unless someone put it in to the crank case, and that would require putting it in under force with the engine turned off, just gravity feed with a hose and a funnel would be a bit hard to get it in the bottom of the crank case.
