I have a 2003 yamaha 130 txrb. I'm going to winterize my boat tomorrow. I have seen a few people use antifreeze? Is it worth using antifreeze for precaution? I was going to run the antifreeze (gallon or so) the. Right before it empties was going to shoot the fogging oil. Is this right thing to do? Can you write the steps of the whole process? Thanks for the tips

Re: Winterize questions

If it's a two stroke which I believe it is .......fog the cylinders and drain the carbs......... store the motor upright and all the water should be drained out........ and or with all the plugs out when the motor is upright turn it a few times with the starter and it will be empty.

No need for antifreeze at all.

Re: Winterize questions

Yes it is a two stroke. So this is what I'm planning on doing tomorrow. I'm going to fill my 6 gallon plastic tank and add stabilizer.put on the ear muffs, start engine and let it get to operating tempature. Let it run for 10-15 min and then should I put it at a fast idle like 1200-1400RPM and then spray the fogging oil into each carb until it stalls(or if it doesn't shut down turn the key)? Then spray a little fogging spray into the spark plug hole and crank the ignition with the stop lanyard disconnected to get the cylinders lubricated. Drain carburetors. Spray exterior of engine with corrosion inhibitor. Grease anything that needs it. Change lower unit oil.keep engine upright. Should I be good following this plan in order? Am I missing anything or need to do something different? And one more thing, what is keeping the engine from from not freezing(the fogging oil)? This will be my first time doing this but iam mechanically sound to a degree. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Winterize questions

Nope that is just about everything.

Depending on where you store the boat be aware of the small rodents....... I cover my exhaust on the prop with a plastic bag and rubber band to keep out small field mice........ I have heard of people taping over all possible spots for rodents to get in , moth balls, dryer sheets ......it depends on your area. Store it in the down position (upright) on the boat of possible.
