hey hows it going everyone, pretty new in boating so i dont know if ima get laughed at, but oh well this is how one learns.
The area where i live nevers goes under 40F, so this winter (first winter with a boat) i plan on working on the boat since there is major problem in the engine. I will be keeping the boat in a garage where i can work on the engine. So my question is, do i still need to winterize if never goes under 40 degrees? ill probably need to run the engine a few times once the work is done on the engine, and i dont have a problem running it once in a while with muffs if that would help...

So yea thats my question. Thanks is advance for the feedback!
Boat info on my signature, Thanks again

If it NEVER goes below 40, you have nothing to worry about... But you might consider draining the cooling system when not in use. That way, if the power would fail, you'd still be covered.

yeah that exactly what i have in mind, just draining the engine after every time i run it. ill be running it once im done with the work.. For the 6 years ive live here ive hardly see the temperatures go below 40, ive seen 30s but probably twice. Besides the engine will be inside the garage so its warmer.

I would put the battery on a maintenancer when not in use and don't forget to change the drive oil.

You're better off to keep the block wet rather than draining and letting air in. If you sure about the temps that is

I wouldn't even waste my time if it rarely gets below 40*. Even a night that gets down to 30-31* won't freeze it solid enough to expand and do damage.

Hey i dont know anything about winterizing, cause if there was winter for one day where i live there would be a lot of dead ppl. :D
40deg might cause that LOL

However when i saw the post about draining the engine, i also wondered. I would think that if there is a larger volume of water it would have to stay much longer at the lower temperture to freeze it solid and so do damage. this making you safer if you do get a night that drops sharply. and being indors would help u here a bit too.
Hopefully I would get some education while you get your question answered.

just my thoughts

No Fuss :)

the idea of keeping water in the engine is to prevent,or slow the rusting of the inside of the motor.remember it is a piece of cast iron, and it needs moisture,AND air to rust.that said it is more important in my opinion to flush it with fresh water, never just drain a salt water motor and let it sit empty.

Even if your temps went down to 30f it would take two weeks to freeze that block as the mass of steel retains heat even if only a little heat for a long time,

The area where i live nevers goes under 40F, so

Ayuh,.... 1000s of folks thought the same thing last year,...
Then there was the Cold Snap,....
1000s of folks replaced their motors this spring...

At a very Minimum,... Drain it...
