My Dutton-Lainson #1602 is missing some teeth on the small gear where the ratchet lever engages. Looks like I'm in the market for a new one. Who makes a good durable winch?

Thanks
Steve

Re: winch is missing some teeth

I got her an apointment with a local dentist, She's missing so many teeth I think she will need falsey's
Nada guides says my boat weighs about 2100# the winch is good for 1600#. should I get a bigger one? Does anyone have a 2 speed that they like, or one with a neutral so you can pull the strap out with out the handle spinning wildly?
Just got back from a lake, I have to get a new one, I either have to leave the strap slack or over tighten it because their's no teeth in the sweet spot ( guess that could be a good thing in some cases)

Thanks
Steve

Re: winch is missing some teeth

I have a nice 2 speed Fulton winch. Only problem is that it is a little too big for my tiny winch post, so the crank handle hits the boat. I just ordered a handle that is 2" shorter, so I should be good to go.

Most of the 2 speed winches I have seen, are too wide to use a strap and get it to lay flat. And the straps aren't rated high enough if you have a heavy boat. You need to use a cable.

My old winch last a couple of teeth last week. I've been carry'n a come along till I get a new one. I usually drive the boat all the way up on the trailer, but if it's a little short I just pull it up the rest of the way with the come along. Might get you thru till you get a winch. I can't find a winch around here so I will have to order one.

I didn't have time to order a winch, so I got one in town. It's a Fulton 1800#. Had to bend the handle for clearance. My son and I went fishing yesterday, we spent 12 hours in the boat. My wife and Daughter showed up at 2 pm so the fishing stopped and we got the tube and ski's out. Anyway winch pulled the boat back on the trailer just fine.

Steve
