winch harness

I have a 2001 Gm truck.I have a factory gm female plug on the hitch.I guess it for a electric brake female plug for a trailer.My qustion is can i buy a male plug for this and plug my boat winch into this plug.I have a boat winch order and should be here in a week,but i guess the winch is a red positive and a black gound negitive.Not sure of the wire gauge on the winch and the gm factory wire and what kind of amp fuse is on it.

you will have to run a positive wire from the battery with a inline circuit breaker to the plug, and increase the size of the ground wire. the breaker came with my winch. if you don't the winch will not have enough power. we just did this to my suburban. http://www.accessconnect.com/trailer_wiring_diagram.htm
