Will this improve power...

I was finishing up my project of installing a new water pump (first timmer) and was thinking. Will removing the plastic plate in front of the carborator add a little more power? It seems logical that by removing this cover colder air can reach the carbs. And, the carbs are still protected by the engine cover. <br /><br />1977 70hp merc<br /><br />What do you think?<br /><br />Jim

JSGAuto,You would get an increase for sure.Not because of air temp,but because of air flow.More air in,more power out.Two things though,you'll have to modify the exhaust to let this air out,and the power increase won't be enough for you to notice.<br />Sorry,DHP

Yeah, that's the choke. If you remove that you'll never get it started...it's hard enough with the choke!

It probably states somewhere on the airbox, not to run the motor over 3000rpms with it removed..FYI
