I broke the driveshaft on my 1975 evinrude 15 hp. Modle 15504c. I found a used shaft online but it came out of a 1979 15 hp evinrude. I need to know if it will fit in my 1975 modle. I dont know the modle number of the 1979 . The shafts are both the same length.

Look very closely on the driveshafts for a 6 digit part number. It may be imprinted, but most numbers resemble a hologram of sorts and are hard to find. If you do find the numbers of each shaft, we should be able to figure the interchange.

We can't take a look as the pictures aren't here. Upload the pics to "Photobucket" (free website), then click on the bottom hyperlink of "img" then "copy". Then come back to this site to enter a post/reply and "paste" it.

There was a fairly significant design change in the driveshafts for 1976. A 1979 shaft will not slide all the way into a '75 gearcase as the spline depths are different.

1977 through 1985 the shafts interchange on the 15 hp model. The 1976 model is a year unto itself!!! ONLY one year.......I wonder if the LU themselves might not interchange though.....the differences in the DS MIGHT be all inside the gear case!!!!!!!!!.......something to ponder bob

As a unit, the lowers interchange through the full range of years up into the late 1980s anyway.
