will these parts match my motor?

hi

can someone tell me if carb #436664 would be a good substitute for carb #436666.
I presumme it's a good match but am just checking before i buy them.

motor is a 1990 60 hp johnson (elesm)

The 664 carb is from a 1993 model 60 hp engine. They should work fine. The 664 carb has a main jet which is one size larger than the main in the 666 carb. That should make little difference in how it runs. They both have the idle adjustment screw-a nice feature for dialing in the idle.

As long as you are shopping for replacement carbs, why not purchase a set from a 70? The carbs will bolt right on-an immediate extra 10 hp.

i've that it's only a rumor that can happen , surely changing carbs can't increase hp ??

If they bolt right on, then the throat is the same? What is different in the carbs, just the jets? If it is, can you just change the jets? I've heard of this, but never the details.

The 70 hp carbs have larger jets AND larger throats to flow more air. You can't just add 70 jets to a 60 carb-you will wind up overfueling the 60 carbs.
