will standard shaft replace xtra long shaft motor

i have a 1995 vip deckliner with a force 120 hp xtra long shaft.motor is trash. all i can find is standard shaft 88 - 90 force motors.i would like to know if i buy an 88 force 125 standard shaft with a cmc jack plate and can i drop the mounting 4 inches if i do it will still be an inch to high.will this affect the power and handling? from the top of the transom to the bottom of boat is 27 inches.

you'll be more likely to cavitate.

The difference is 5 inches between the long and standard.
Sounds like it's not quite right.
Look around there are lots of those motors around.J

When I rebuilt my transom, I raised it 2". This caused my outboard to cavitate.
