Will my older boat rating be ok with 4 stroke weight?

I am looking to step up to a 4-stroke. The rating of my older pontoon boat is for a 115HP. Is the rating based only on torque, or weight, or both? I am concerned about the extra weight of the 4-stroke. I have a 28 ft. pontoon and am looking at a 90-115HP range. I want to go with fuel injection if possible and am looking at larger HP just for that reason. Is that smart?

the weight is just the main thing. I know my 40hp Honda weighs about double what the older merc. did. I was able to stay under my advertized weight.

I think the weight difference in your size class is around 150# or less, 2 vs. 4 stroke. If you're rated for a 115, either choice should be just fine. I'd be willing to bet the 4 stroke would make you much happier in the long run.

------------------
Fish on! FISH ON! Holy cr*p, it's a whopper! Oh boy Oh boy! Oh, wait... It's just kelp.
