Will low lower gearcase lube cause a slippage, like in a car when the transmission fluid is low. 1981 OMC GM inline, 400 O/d. At low rpm it feels like the O/D is slipping.

and, it only happens at low rpm, unless it's normal not to feel it at higher ones.

Not electric shift. I have a second prop to try once I can get it to the water. Any of you guys have a suggestion to test for prop slippage out of the water? I have no tilt motor so I have to drop the boat in, test the fluid change "solution" (needed it anyway), and then try switching props. Thought maybe I could test it on land. Thanks

IMHO the prop slipping would get worse with increasing RPM.

Thats what I have read, but I can't seem to get any answer. Any other ideas to the cause?
