I have a 1977 evinrude 115hp that runs good sitting in my garage. I just purchased a 1987 ebko runabout with an 87 evinrude 60hp with bad compression and I was planning on putting the 115hp on my new boat. My concern is will the controls on the new boat work with the older motor? I am new to boating and I am hoping to learn. The boat is rated for up to 120 so I feel comfortable putting the 115. I am also considering trying to repair the 60 and selling it, figure its not worth much with bad compression.

They should work just fine from what I've seen about the cables, I believe the motor hook ups are the same up until now (2010) but the control end is what is different.

The control boxes and red plug adapter are the same from 1973-1995. Your box will work on the older engine.
