Will a mityvac work for me?

I'm new on this and so far the help has been tremendous. I let my boat sit on the trailer (Load Rite Tandem) for 4 years. Got the boat running but my surge brakes don't work. Brake fluid turned into sludge. I vacuumed the sludge out of the reservoir and pump the actuator and it does not seem to be doing anything. I can say with confidence the sludge is probably caked in the brake lines.

I read a post in a similar situation that said to use a mityvac to bleed the lines. Will that work in my situation. Money is tight and if that will suck the sludge through the lines I will do it. Or is it a waste of $50 buying the mityvac compared to rebuilding the entire brake system.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I'm not a fan of the vac type systems, the pressure systems work better.

This is the one I've got - just pick out the one that has the correct type of MC adaptor for your trailer. I've got 4 different adapters that fit every car and trailer we've got.

+1 pressure works far better than vacuum. Its not hard to have a restriction bad enough that you can pull vacuum on one side of it, and it won't move.

Bigger question is... Is the system recoverable? usually if its in that bad of shape, a fluid change won't help. Brake fluid by itself doesn't turn to sludge. Its the rust and other garbage that found its way in that is causing problems, so just cleaning out the lines won't help. Most of the time you are talking new brakes, actuator, and possibly lines.
