will a gauge indicate battery life

Last year I installed gauges for the first time, the 12v battery reads 13v which is normal I think

Thr battery is a few years old, Will I have any indicator when this battery is going to die for good?

What I mean is that situation where you charge a battery, all looks good, then when you put a load on it it dies because the battery is just shot.

I use this type of gage to read my battery's. It is a voltage gage but it has a lot better needle moment to show the usable range of a battery, when you consider a full charged battery is 12.6 and one ran down to 50 % is 12.06.

Ayuh,.... The only "Gauge" that does that is a Battery Load Tester,...

No dash gauge can tell ya the battery is Gonna die, later,...
Only the voltage at that point in time,...

Watch your gauge while you're cranking the motor over to get a base line and if the voltage starts dropping below your base line in the future then it's a sign of a problem.

Do a Poor Man's Load Test each spring.

Disable the ignition so it won't start.
Crank the engine for 10 seconds.
If it still sounds strong and doesn't start to slow down after 10 seconds, the battery is strong enough to start the boat. If the engine will not normally start in well less than 10 seconds, Fix the motor.

I have the same one. Crude and primitive, but it seems to work. But then again, I've been described the same way.:redface:
