Will a 25hp Mercury push a 16' Basstracker?

I recently bought a basstracker that's in need of a lot of tlc. It came with a 40hp mercury that someone tried to work on and lost some pieces to:facepalm:

I've got a pretty decent 25hp mercury that runs out well and whatnot that we had on a 16 foot barge. It pushed the barge pretty well.

Do you think it would be enough for an older basstracker? Not trying to win any races, just get to the fishing holes safely and maybe plane out every now and again.

I have a 50 on a 16'er and it will plane at less than half throttle, I don't know if that translates or not but a 25 should do okay.

My best top speed has been 29.2 so you should get 16-18 maybe, it will certainly move the boat and get you out fishing.

double the speed is 4x the horsepower.

if you get 30mph with 50HP then you should get 21mph from 25HP.

You also get less speed with more weight
and more speed with adjustable trim angle.

Theres lots of 16' jons with 25hp's.
Should plane off nicely if theres not to much extra weight in the boat, wet foam/wood...
Like mentiones above 22mph.

Yes it will. I can attest because I have a tracker pro 117 with a 25 hp 2 stroke, that's the motor limit on my local lake. It does exactly 21 mph according to the speedometer.

Is that the tracker basstracker?
993lbs
560lb person capacity
1050lb boat capacity

It will push it but don't expect to go very fast especially if you get closer to the maximum capacity or have a strong headwind. I do not own one but I am thinking that 21mph is pretty well close to WOT (how much weight in the boat?)

However, getting there is 1/2 the fun and if you are not on a large body of water it will coast nicely. Also as craighoades said some lakes have a 25HP limit. My 40HP cannot go on those lakes.

It ended up with a 40hp Johnson on. I'm steering working out the steering bugs from the cable modification, but so far, so good.

Should be in the water for the first test this Sunday.
