Can I put a 1960 lower end on a 1957 10 h.p. Evinrude. There is the small phillips screw on the skeg on the 1960 and not the 1957. Will this make a differance. Also could I use the the whbole lower including the exaust port down?

Thanks

Mike

What size 1960 gearcase are you trying to use?

The screw you mention is a pivot for the shifter arm. The one without has a pin that sits in a saddle cast into the bottom cap. If the gearcases are otherwise identical, then either should work on either motor.

You CAN use a 1960 18hp lower unit on your '57 10hp, but you CANNOT use a 1960 10hp lower unit on your 1957. The 1957 models uses the 5-bolt pattern, while the 1960 model uses the four bolt pattern. Two entirely different units.

- Scott
