I am thinking of saliing up to Wildwood, NJ next week.
The thing I noticed about their bay is that it is not very big at all. seems like mostly narrow channels. And not a lot of places to anchor.
I did see one basin across the strip from the convention center, that looked like you could anchor there. It looked like some type of park.

Is there any place to anchor there, and row to shore? Or better yet, a dock bar. I guess I could just pay for a transient slip. But I'm trying to save money.

You have Sunset Lake (a cove really) In Wildwood Crest and Cape May Harbor in Cape May. Sailing into Cape May Harbor is popular and much easier, as it is near the Cape May Inlet. See sailing vessels moored and they row in all the time.

Your popular dockside bars are Harbor View Marina (Restaurant and Marina), the Lobster House (both in Cape May).

In Wildwood you have Uries, The Boathouse, The Warf and Sunset Bay in North Wildwood. There is Lighthouse Point and Schooner Island in Wildwood, too. Lighthouse Point will be jumpin'. Lobster House in Cape May is near all the fishing charters. Could poke around and see some big game fish, or at worst the commercial boats unloading.Fresh fish to eat!

What do you want to do in Wildwood??? That affects the answer. If you don't care for the boardwalk, I'd DEFINITELY want to hit Cape May.

Google will tell all about their locations. I've added the two best. Gotta love the internet, GPS and Google maps!

Top Cape May pick: Lobster House. The whole area/marina = great. Feels like New England. http://www.thelobsterhouse.com/

Top Wildwood pick: Lighthouse Point. Active. Jumpin'. No fishing right there to check out. Louder music//crowd. http://www.lighthousepointerestaurant.com/

Re: Wildwood, NJ Anchorages

there is a jiu jitsu tourneyment next weekend in wild wood
that's why i wanted to go there

Question: If I go in Hearford Inlet, Are there any low bridges that won't let me turn south? I need 45 ft vertical clearance.
Post Creek is where i was thinking about anchoring

I put this up a lot and I hope it isn't a problem with the moderators.

It is free like Iboat and you can update location information, add places if they aren't in there and add reviews

I find it very useful in helping me find places in areas I haven't been

Hereford inlet is a natural inlet. You need to know the waters... or better be able to read the waters... or can follow someone in. Hmmm.... 45' is an interesting height. I can't guarantee anything. Tough one to call. Post creek is nothing but tubers and waverunner rental action.

Hereford inlet: About 75% of the time, you need to follow a roller in, then jump it as it breaks (into breaker) or before, but not so that you don't jump into something else that breaks. If you've done it before, breath in and go for it. The bad part about not knowing the waters is that, when jumping a breaker to enter a natural inlet, you can kiss your boat (and maybe you) goodbye, if you hit a sandbar. You don't want to be beached as breakers crash on you.

Follow someone in and know how to time the breakers. Or... Cape May has man made inlets.

Re: Wildwood, NJ Anchorages

yea, I use active captain too.
But it said one of the bridges was under construction. and it was not real clear if it would open or not to let boats thru.
But If the ICW cuts thru there, then it must be able to let big ships thru.

So a natural inlet has breakers going all the way up to the bay? I guess there is no jetty there to stop the waves? I think it will be easier to cut thru cape may, and take the ICW up.

So could I anchor in post Creek? Is there a spot to land on the shore with a rowboat? It kinda looks like a park around there.
